How To: Compare Metrics with Two Timeframes

Introduction

In addition to being able to pull statistics for a set timeframe, the Main Report has a 'Compare Options' feature which allows you to compare metrics for two timeframes! This is great if you want to compare things like Campaign performance for this month compared to last month or Conversion Rates per Targeted Domain between two different weeks.

Report Generation (Without Applied Filters)

  1. Open the navigation panel on the left side of the interface and select "Main Report" from the "Reports" section.

  2. Choose one timeframe to use for the report by selecting the date range and timezone and breakdown you would like to set as by using the date picker.

    • Please Note: Selecting different Breakdown options is not available for comparison. The only available option is 'Summary'.

  3. Click the arrow next to 'Compare Options' for a drop down to appear to select which timeframe to compare against the initially selected timeframe.

    • Previous Period: Will compare to the same time period immediately preceding the timeframe selected.

      • Comparing Yesterday to Previous Period: Yesterday to day before

      • Comparing Today (12AM to 9AM) to Previous Period: Today compared to yesterday's hours of 12AM to 9AM).

      • Comparing Monday to Wednesday of current week to Previous Period: Monday to Wednesday compared to Friday to Sunday of last week.

        • Last three days to previous three days

    • Same Period Previous Week: Will compare to the same time period of the previous week.

      • Comparing Yesterday (Monday) to Previous Week: Monday of current week compared to Monday of previous week.

      • Comparing Today (Tuesday 12AM to 9AM) to Previous Week: Today 12AM to 9AM compared to last Tuesday's hours of 12AM to 9AM.

      • Comparing Monday to Wednesday of current week to Previous Week: Monday to Wednesday compared to Monday to Wednesday of last week.

    • Same Period Previous Month: Will compare to the same time period of the previous month.

      • Comparing Yesterday (10/11) to Previous Month: October 11th compared to September 11th.

      • Comparing Today (10/12 12AM to 9AM) to Previous Month: Today's hours of 12AM to 9AM compared to September 12th's hours of 12AM to 9AM.

      • Comparing October 10-13th to Previous Month: October 11-13th compared to September 10-13th.

    • Same Period Previous Quarter: Will compare to the same time period of the previous quarter.

      • Comparing Yesterday (10/11) to Previous Quarter: October 11th compared to July 11th.

      • Comparing Today (10/12 12AM to 9AM) to Previous Quarter: Today's hours of 12AM to 9AM compared to July 12th's hours of 12AM to 9AM.

      • Comparing October 10-13th to Previous Quarter: October 11-13th compared to July 10-13th.

    • Same Period Previous Year: Will compare to the same time period of the previous year.

      • Comparing Yesterday (10/11) to Previous Year: October 11, 2021 compared to October 11, 2021.

      • Comparing October 10-13th to Previous Year: October 11-13, 2021 compared to October 10-13, 2020.

      • Comparing Last Month (September) to Previous Year: September 2021 compared to September 2020.

    • Custom: Will compare to a custom timeframe.

  4. Select how to break up the data under 'Break By Metrics':

    • Creative (Note: Selection is not required. If nothing is selected, the report generated will aggregate all Campaigns, Creatives and Keyword data for whatever metric(s) are selected.):

      • Campaign - Data will be broken down by Campaign only.

      • Creative - Data will be broken down by Campaign and Creative.

      • Keyword - Data will be broken down by Campaign, Creative and Keyword.

    • Placement (Note: Selection is not required.):

      • Targeted Domain - Domains provided will be the domain(s) which is targeted by the Keyword set.

      • Served Domain - Domains provided will the domains(s) which triggered the ad to be served.

        • These domain(s) may or may not be the same as the Targeted Domain list.

      • Please Note: Targeted vs. Served Domains occur due to our Delayed Targeting configuration. More information regarding Delayed Targeting can be found here.

    • Targeting (Note: Selection is not required.):

      • OS - Data provided will be broken down by Operating System.

      • Browser - Data provided will be broken down by Browser.

      • Country - Data provided will be broken down by Country.

      • State - Data provided will be broken down by State.

      • DMA - Data provided will be broken down by DMA.

      • Zip - Data provided will be broken down by Zip Code.

  5. Select Pixel(s) to be used in the 'Break By Column'.

    • If no pixel is selected, but multiple pixels are used, conversions will be an aggregate of all pixels.

    • If multiple pixels are selected, each pixel will have its own rows of data.

    • If only one pixel is used in the account, this selection step is not required.

  6. Click 'Generate' to begin report generation.

Report Generated (With Applied Filters)

  1. Follow steps #1-5 from above.

  2. Select or enter in necessary filters (Note: Filtering is not required, with the option to filter on one or multiple data points. Data will be generated on an aggregate level for any point which does not have a filter applied.):

    • Account - The default account selected will be the account currently logged into. Other accounts (s) from the same company can also be selected to generate reporting at once.

    • All Campaigns - Select Campaign(s) to filter data by.

      • Please Note: Only available if 'Campaign' is selected under 'Break By Metrics'.

    • All Creatives - Select Creatives(s) to filter data by.

      • Please Note: Only available if Creative is selected under 'Break By Metrics'.

    • All Keywords - Add a list of Keyword(s) to filter data by.

      • Please Note: Only available if Keyword is selected under 'Break By Metrics'.

    • All Placements - Add a list of domains(s) to filter data by.

    • All Creative Types - Select ad unit(s) to filter data by.

    • All OSs - Select operating system(s) to filter data by.

    • All Browsers - Select browser(s) to filter data by.

    • All Countries - Select country(ies) to filter data by.

    • All States - Select state(s) to filter data by.

    • All DMAs - Select DMA(s) to filter data by.

    • All Zips - Select zip code(s) to filter data by.

  3. Click 'Generate' to begin report generation.

Notes

  • Two timeframes will be displayed for each metric: 1st and 2nd.

    • 1st: Timeframe selected to compare to via 'Compare Options'

    • 2nd: Timeframe selected via 'Time Period' (most recent timeframe)

  • Each metric will have several available columns to view.

    • Default view will only show '1st' and '2nd' columns for each, other than Cost. Cost will also show 'Diff' and 'Diff. %', which represents the numerical and percentage differences between the 1st and 2nd timeframes.

      • Both 'Diff' and 'Diff %' can be added to all other metrics.

        • Hover to the left of the '1st' or '2nd' column headers so that a drop down arrow appears.

        • Click on the drop down arrow for a list to display.

        • Hover over 'Columns' for another list to display.

        • Hover over the data point or metric to add columns to.

        • Check the box(es) next to the column(s) to be added.

  • One column can be sorted (Ascending or Descending) at a time.
