Introduction

Due to OddBytes' zero tolerance policy on Anti-Virus (AV) flags, but having the desire to support advertisers' needs, the Backup URL feature can be used in hopes to continue serving traffic to your Creative, even if the original Creative URL is rejected. If the original Creative URL contains a domain that is found to have an AV flag during compliance review, then the compliance team can switch to the Backup URL as a temporary Creative URL to avoid rejection. There will be no interruptions in ad delivery with the switch.

Please Note:

  • The Backup URL must also follow all compliance guidelines. If it does not, it will be ineligible for use. Please ensure that the URL (tracking URL, redirects and/or final landing page URL) is compliant and free of AV flags at all times.

  • The Backup URL must be different from the URL being used as the Creative URL.

  • There is no time limit in how long the Backup URL can receive traffic and act as the Creative URL. However, it may be in your best interest to replace the Creative URL with the Backup URL and add in a new Backup URL.

How to Add/Edit a Backup URL

  1. Click on ‘Manage Creatives’ on the left side nav.

  2. Find the Creative that you want to add a Backup URL.

  3. Click the pencil icon next to the Creative.

  4. Add or Edit the URL within the 'Backup URL' field.

  5. Click the ‘Save & Close’ button.

How to Bulk Add/Edit a Backup URL

  2. Select the Creative(s) that you want to add a Backup URL.

  3. Click the ‘Edit’ drop down.

  4. Click ‘Change Backup URL…’.

  5. Choose which update option is best:

    1. Set URL - Every Creative selected will have its Backup URL(s) updated to the URL entered in the box

    2. Replace - Find and Replace a portion of the Backup URL(s) for every Creative selected

    3. Append - Append an extension, variable or macro to the Backup URL(s) for every Creative selected

    4. Base on Main Creative URL - Creates Backup URL(s) by replacing parts of the Main Creative URL(s) for every Creative Selected

  6. Enter the text that needs to be updated or added.

  7. Click the ‘Preview’ button.

  8. Click the ‘Save’ button if the update is correct.

How to View the Creatives(s) with a Backup URL

To more easily identify which Creative(s) have a Backup URL added, a Backup URL column can be added to the 'Manage Creatives' grid. If the column is not present, add it by following the below steps:

  1. Click on ‘Manage Creatives’ on the left side nav.

  2. At a column header, hover over the header and click on the drop down arrow icon.

  3. Hover over 'Columns' and click on 'Backup URL'.

Once the column is added, a checkmark icon will appear. By hovering over the icon, you can view the status of the Backup URL and the URL itself.

How to View the Creative(s) with an Active Backup URL

There are three ways in which to know if a Creative has been switched from the Creative URL to Backup URL, meaning that the Backup URL is actively receiving traffic and the Creative URL is flagged.

  1. Backup URL Column: The icon will change from a checkmark to a triangle with an exclamation mark.

  2. Platform Message: A banner message at the top of the platform will be present.

  3. Email Alert: An email can be sent informing the user of the change. To opt into the email alert, please click here for instructions.
